Springtime is almost here for most of us so let’s get planning with these 12 awesome outdoor activities you can try this spring!
1. Go for a bike ride
I’m not just talking about riding around your neighborhood – anyone can do that! Have more fun by heading over to a hiking trail, to the beach or mountains, and take out your bike for an amazing experience!
2. Learn how to garden
If you don’t already know how to garden (and I don’t) then why not learn? Gardening is great for men and women and can be a very relaxing experience especially if you have a stressful life. And you don’t have to plant flowers! You can start your own vegetable and/or herb garden and get some real use out of your outdoor labors!
3. Go on a picnic
Don’t let the picture fool you – a picnic can consist of more than flowers and tea or wine! You can go on a picnic with BBQ and beer if it suits you better! But try eating outside, maybe in a park or at your favorite camping/fishing site. If there is a grill around you can even have a cook-out. This is even better to do with someone else, whether it’s a significant other or a group of friends. Just get out and have some fun!
4. Tour your own city
So many times we get caught up in the day-to-day life going to work, buying groceries, and just getting things done that we forget to really get to know our own city. So, why not take a morning or afternoon and go downtown? Walk around, grab a bite to eat, see what parks are nearby. Or, if you don’t really have a downtown to check out, head to the nearest city with a walkable downtown area and discover someplace new!
5. Set up a scavenger hunt
Scavenger hunts aren’t just for kids, you know! They can be great for adults as well. Choose a group of friends (or family members) and put together a scavenger hunt. Write a list of clues (or have someone help you) of local places and you can drive around, or walk around downtown, to find them. Or use sites like statues or artwork around your city. There are so many different ways you can do this! Just try it out and see how much fun you and your friends can have!
6. Check out a local farm
There are a lot of farms in the USA and even if there isn’t one 5 minutes from your home, check out where the nearest one is located and find out if you can visit! Many farms offer tours and will be happy to explain what farm-life is like, what kind of crops/livestock they have, and maybe even give you some samples! But we should always support our farmers because they are the backbone of our country!
7. Workout outside
Instead of going to the gym all the time, why not choose a park to do a workout at least once a week? That way you can exercise and enjoy the great outdoors at the same time! There are plenty of exercises you can do without weights or machines. Just Google some and find someplace fun to do them! If you don’t want people watching you can always go in the early morning or late evening hours – just make sure you’re safe!
8. Nap in a hammock
I’m sure all my outdoor peeps have hammocks because that’s normally a part of the hiking/camping lifestyle. But this idea is not for people who are hiking and camping. Instead, why not go out on a lazy Saturday or Sunday afternoon to a park, hook up your hammock, and take a nap in the sun? Just make sure you are 1)Allowed to do so and 2)Put on sunscreen!
9. Go to the fair
If you have a local fair in the spring, or know of one that shows up near your city, why not check it out? Even if you don’t like rides you can buy some of the fried foods or check out the pavilions. Just enjoy that carnival atmosphere and people-watch!
10. Explore some caves
There are plenty of caves all across America (and other countries) that you can explore, many of them already mapped and planned out for tourists if you don’t want to climb in the caves on your own. The rock formations and occasionally waterfalls and other exciting sights make this an adventure all its own!
11. Find an outdoor concert
A lot of concerts and shows go on during the spring, so why not find an outdoor concert you’d enjoy and check it out? It’s a unique experience and can be a lot of fun either by yourself or with friends or family!
12. Go river rafting
River rafting is an adrenaline rush and a great team-building exercise as well for your friends, family, or co-workers! If you want to try something new, and don’t mind getting wet, this is a great adventure!
