10 Exciting Things to Do This Summer camping

10 Exciting Things to Do This Summer

  • June 4, 2018June 4, 2018
  • by Tara Outdoors

If you’re looking for some exciting things to do this summer, why not check out the list below! We’ve tried to come up with some not-so-ordinary ways to spend your time this summer and we hope you enjoy them!

camp on the beach

1. Camp on the Beach

Everyone wants to go camping in the summer but not many people know that there are some beaches who allow you to camp on the beach itself! Florida is one of the best places to go for this as they have over 900 camping grounds and many of them are on the beach! You can read more about it at Visit Florida’s website and get your next camping trip started!

picnic in your backyard

2. Picnic in Your Backyard

You don’t have to drive to a park this summer to have a picnic! Why not enjoy your own backyard? Too many times we have beautiful yards but rarely spend time in them. So, this weekend, pack a basket, set up a beach blanket, and enjoy a nice lunch in your own backyard!

swim in a river

3. Swim in a River

While tons of people go each summer to the beach or to lakes, not many think about swimming in a river instead! Of course, you need to be careful which river it is as some can be dangerous, but there are plenty of lazy rivers that would make for an awesome day of swimming.

hike in your park

4. Hike in Your Park

While it’s fun to head to the mountains in the summer and go hiking, you don’t have to go that far to hike! Why not check out your local park or one in a nearby town? All you need a mile or two of good trails and you can spend the afternoon hiking and enjoy nature!

tour a neighboring city

5. Tour a Neighboring City

While touring your own town became a summer staple a few years ago, we suggest heading to a neighboring city maybe 30 minutes to two hours away. Do things that typical tourists would do! Check out museums, art galleries, shops, and maybe try a few of the fun things to do. A great place to get ideas is Tripadvisor.com. Just type in the city and state name and look for “things to do.”

ride a horse in the mountains

6. Ride Horses in the Mountains

Maybe you’ve ridden horses at a stable, through a field or forest, maybe even on the beach. But this summer, try something new and head to the mountains! There are plenty of ranches that offer horse riding tours and adventures. See the mountains from a new perspective and maybe even get to know some lovely animals.

start a community garden

7. Create a Community Garden

If you love to garden then why not take the time this summer to share that love with others? Find out if your neighborhood allows a community garden, and if not, there may be a local park or other city areas that will allow it. Community gardens are not only great for socializing but also for planting vegetables and fruits that all can share and enjoy together!

take a roadtrip

8. Go on a Roadtrip

Road trips aren’t just a thing of the past. We think that they should become something you do as a family or with friends every summer! Just make sure your car is ready for long-distance travel and that you have enough money to have a great time. The best way to go on a road trip is not to plan ahead. You can plan ahead on any other trip, but a road trip is best when it’s spontaneous. Just pick a road and drive and see what you can see.

volunteer

9. Volunteer

This may not be your first choice of things to do in the summer, but volunteering can be a lot of fun! Find some friends to join you, or go alone and make new friends! Volunteering helps us get our minds off ourselves and onto the needs of others and what we can do to help. You can volunteer with the homeless, the elderly, wounded veterans, animals, and so much more! If you’re interested in volunteering, check out volunteermatch.org which can help you find the perfect place for your next volunteer opportunity!

take photos

10. Take Photos

This may seem like a no-brainer, but we’re not talking about selfies or taking photos of your food. Spend an afternoon at the beach, in a park, or touring a city and just take photos of anything that interests you. Use a camera or your phone but have fun with it! Take unexpected photos, use weird angles, find shadows or lighting that interests you. You don’t need to be a professional photographer to have a great time taking photos this summer!

12 Fun Things You’ll Want to Do This Spring

  • April 11, 2018April 10, 2018
  • by Tara Outdoors

Springtime is almost here for most of us so let’s get planning with these 12 awesome outdoor activities you can try this spring!

1. Go for a bike ride

I’m not just talking about riding around your neighborhood – anyone can do that! Have more fun by heading over to a hiking trail, to the beach or mountains, and take out your bike for an amazing experience!

2. Learn how to garden

If you don’t already know how to garden (and I don’t) then why not learn? Gardening is great for men and women and can be a very relaxing experience especially if you have a stressful life. And you don’t have to plant flowers! You can start your own vegetable and/or herb garden and get some real use out of your outdoor labors!

3. Go on a picnic

Don’t let the picture fool you – a picnic can consist of more than flowers and tea or wine! You can go on a picnic with BBQ and beer if it suits you better! But try eating outside, maybe in a park or at your favorite camping/fishing site. If there is a grill around you can even have a cook-out. This is even better to do with someone else, whether it’s a significant other or a group of friends. Just get out and have some fun!

4. Tour your own city

So many times we get caught up in the day-to-day life going to work, buying groceries, and just getting things done that we forget to really get to know our own city. So, why not take a morning or afternoon and go downtown? Walk around, grab a bite to eat, see what parks are nearby. Or, if you don’t really have a downtown to check out, head to the nearest city with a walkable downtown area and discover someplace new!

5. Set up a scavenger hunt

Scavenger hunts aren’t just for kids, you know! They can be great for adults as well. Choose a group of friends (or family members) and put together a scavenger hunt. Write a list of clues (or have someone help you) of local places and you can drive around, or walk around downtown, to find them. Or use sites like statues or artwork around your city. There are so many different ways you can do this! Just try it out and see how much fun you and your friends can have!

6. Check out a local farm

There are a lot of farms in the USA and even if there isn’t one 5 minutes from your home, check out where the nearest one is located and find out if you can visit! Many farms offer tours and will be happy to explain what farm-life is like, what kind of crops/livestock they have, and maybe even give you some samples! But we should always support our farmers because they are the backbone of our country!

7. Workout outside

Instead of going to the gym all the time, why not choose a park to do a workout at least once a week? That way you can exercise and enjoy the great outdoors at the same time! There are plenty of exercises you can do without weights or machines. Just Google some and find someplace fun to do them! If you don’t want people watching you can always go in the early morning or late evening hours – just make sure you’re safe!

8. Nap in a hammock

I’m sure all my outdoor peeps have hammocks because that’s normally a part of the hiking/camping lifestyle. But this idea is not for people who are hiking and camping. Instead, why not go out on a lazy Saturday or Sunday afternoon to a park, hook up your hammock, and take a nap in the sun? Just make sure you are 1)Allowed to do so and 2)Put on sunscreen!

9. Go to the fair

If you have a local fair in the spring, or know of one that shows up near your city, why not check it out? Even if you don’t like rides you can buy some of the fried foods or check out the pavilions. Just enjoy that carnival atmosphere and people-watch!

10. Explore some caves

There are plenty of caves all across America (and other countries) that you can explore, many of them already mapped and planned out for tourists if you don’t want to climb in the caves on your own. The rock formations and occasionally waterfalls and other exciting sights make this an adventure all its own!

11. Find an outdoor concert

A lot of concerts and shows go on during the spring, so why not find an outdoor concert you’d enjoy and check it out? It’s a unique experience and can be a lot of fun either by yourself or with friends or family!

12. Go river rafting

River rafting is an adrenaline rush and a great team-building exercise as well for your friends, family, or co-workers! If you want to try something new, and don’t mind getting wet, this is a great adventure!
